The amazing 1993 Toyota Corolla in New Zealand has clocked 1.2 million miles since new. According to the local magazine Whanganui Chronicle, local newspaper delivery driver Graeme Hebley bought a caravan in Japan in 2000 with 50,000 miles driven.
Since then, he has driven approximately 310 miles every week due to work. Due to his intensive daily route, he serviced the vehicle every other week and changed the belt about 20 times. The car has all the original parts and the driver Hebli points out: Toyota was extremely reliable at the time, but if it hadn’t been serviced and maintained so often it certainly wouldn’t have survived.
The Guinness World Record for the most kilometers traveled by a non-commercial road vehicle is held by the 1966 Volvo P1800S, driven by New Yorker Irv Gordon. He bought a new car and drove 3.2 million miles – until his death in 2020. Mercedes-Benz announced in 2017 that the 1992 200D sedan had traveled 650K miles in Germany, and behind the wheel was one of Mercedes’ engineers.
